From December 2003 until mid 2008, the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam is undergoing the
most extensive renovation, alteration and restoration in its history. During this period, the museum will remain partially open and this part that is still accessible is certainly worth visiting. The museum presents the cream of its collection in the Philips Wing. The presentation offers the unique opportunity to see all the highlights of the Golden Age, such as the wonderful dolls' houses, a treasure-trove of silver, the most beautiful Delftware, magnificent militia paintings, icons from Dutch history, and of course, the famous paintings by Jan Steen, Frans Hals, Vermeer and Rembrandt, with The Night Watch as the highlight. The collection of over 400 masterpieces together tells the impressive story of the political, economic and artistic wonders of the Golden Age.
